over his head

i feel bad for one of the junior engineers here. he was assigned the task to modify this block, and frankly, i think it's beyond him. i mean, i don't think he can't do it, but given the overly aggressive schedule, i think it's going to be tough. and i think he's way harder than he thinks it is. he's been stopping by my cube for some help, and it's kind of clear that he doesn't understand what's going on. i keep telling him to understand the algorithm first before he starts changing the code. in the meantime, my own work has been going well, although my next task is sort of similar to that engineer's: changing a block to add some new functionality. i'm not looking forward to it. i HATE looking into other people's (rather ugly) code! *RAAR*

in my haste yesterday, i forgot to mention that the cowboys/eagles monday night game was AWESOME. there was everything: fumbles in the endzone, bonehead plays, long bombs, good defense, quarterback scrambles, seven lead changes, etc. it was a great win for the cowboys, although the eagles showed that they have what it takes to be an elite team as well. i am very impressed with jason witten, who toughed it out with a separated shoulder. if there is one cowboys player's jersey i'd like to get, it would be his. i looked online, and damn, authentic jerseys cost over $200! hm. i found out that the cowboys/49ers game is in late november, so i'll be back from the UK. nelson (a die-hard niners fan) and i will get it on. hopefully i'll have my witten jersey by then.

_fringe_ is a little creepy and gross. last night's episode featured an extraction of an eyeball. at that point, i had to look away from the tv. the show is interesting, but unbelievable at certain points. that whole "you can see the last thing that a dead person sees" is a bit ridiculous, don't you think? but i'm still intrigued by the show, and i'll keep watching for now. oh, and whenever i see joshua jackson, i think "pacey" from _dawson's creek_. he still has the same mannerisms! it's like how matthew perry will always be chandler from _friends_.

my brother just sent me an e-mail just now. i guess i can talk about it now, but he's getting married next month. yup, my baby brother (he's 10 years younger) is getting hitched. he's getting married to a girl he met in church, and they both just graduated from UCLA. there was a bit of rumbling in my family, especially from my dad, because my brother doesn't have a job or a plan to make money. there's other issues as well which i won't get into, and i'll have to say that i also think it's a bit too early (i mean, they're just out of college, and they've only been dating for 11 months), but i will support my brother in whatever he does. the reason why he e-mailed me was because i sent him a check for $3K to help pay for his wedding. his wedding will be very frugal, and set within his church guidelines, it will be very different from the normal weddings that you and i are used to. there will be no wedding party, no drinking, dancing, alcohol; the whole thing will be like a church meeting, so i've been told. i can't say that i'm looking forward to it, but it will definitely be an "experience."

my coworker I said today, "it's already wednesday!" i corrected him by saying, "it's ONLY wednesday."

i wonder if i'll gain or lose weight in the UK. i figure that food will be so expensive there that i'll starve myself. are portions big there? is the food greasy? will i eat a ton of shepherd's pie? hm. when i lived in japan, i lost a lot of weight because portions were a lot smaller, japanese food was pretty healthy, and food cost so damn expensive (the yen was 80 to the dollar!) that i couldn't afford to get full. i wouldn't mind losing weight, maybe 5-10 pounds. i want to be 165 again.

i was in the bathroom today taking a dump at the office, and this guy was in the shower, and every 10 seconds or so, he would grunt/moan. i wonder what the hell he was doing. wanking, perhaps? hm. i have to admit, though, that i've done it at work before. *embarrassed* back at my summer internship, my company had these HUGE bathrooms, like with 20 stalls, so i was really, completely bored one day, so i went all the way to the end and did it. yeah, it's sort of crazy, but safe to say, i'll never do it again.

hm. 6pm. i'm hungry. i want to go home. i wrote two tests today, and they seem to be working, after fixing one bug in my code and another in the test itself. good job!
