code monkey

it took a while to get motivated, but i finally sat down after lunch today, and coded like a maniac for an hour and a half. 522 lines of verilog. not bad. it wasn't terribly brainful or complex code, but it was actually fun. i miss coding. writing code is one of my strengths, but i haven't had to do much of it here at my company for the past 3+ years. most of my code development has been in MC, and that's just a bunch of mathematical equations. verilog is different. anyways, that's over with, and i look forward to doing it again.

so J, my soon-to-be-departing coworker, came into my cube this morning to tell me about this sex scandal involving gillian chung, one of the painfully cute members of the cantonese pop duo, twins. apparently, her boyfriend's computer got raided, and they found all these explicit pictures of him and two other girls (including gillian). i found some online (i'm not sure if the girl is gillian or this other girl, cecilia), and man, these girls need to shave their pubes! anyways, gillian *is* cute, and i feel bad for her. i don't think this is any worse than the paris hilton sex video or the britney spears no-underwear picture, but i guess for an uptight asian society, it may have deeper or more painful repercussions.

i had some pretty interesting dreams over the weekend. one of them involved hooking up with hr girl, who i haven't seen in like two years. she's hot, and i really miss her. then, later on in the night/morning, i dreamt that i was talking to three prostitutes outside a brothel. and this morning, i dreamt that i was part of a "temptation island"-esque reality show, and the guys and i were ranking the hotness of the women on the show. pretty neat. if only my life were as interesting as my dreams. maybe i'm repressed? yeah, i definitely am.

yeah, re: drinking and driving, i shouldn't do it ever again. i wanted to drink friday night, and my plan was for nelson to pick me up at home. the problem was, i got out of work late, and nelson told me to go to his place instead. rats. luckily, the drive home wasn't too far or hard (just mainly going straight on central expressway), but yeah, i missed two turns because my reaction time was so slow. scary shit. ok, no more of that! next time, designated driver for sure. and no, i didn't have a hangover, although in the middle of the night, my mouth was definitely dry, and i got up to drink some water. i am definitely surprised that greg didn't get a hangover. either he puked all his alcohol out, or he has some crazy metabolism.

sigh. so football season is over. (and no, the pro bowl does not count as a real football game.) like every other year, this season blew by in a flash. so many upsets, all by the giants. i gotta hand it to them, though; they peaked at the right time, and the two things that impressed me the most were their defensive front four and eli manning. i kept on waiting for eli to collapse, but he stayed great the entire time. has he become an elite quarterback? he just might have.

the stanford men are ranked #9 in the coaches poll! let's see if they can continue their winning streak and beat oregon on thursday. that's going to be a tough game. go cardinal!

do you guys have a preferred side of sleep? at night, i can only fall asleep on my right side. when i'm in bed with sportscenter on, i watch it on my left side, but when i'm ready to fall asleep, i have to roll over to the other side. what's weird, though, is that during the day, when i'm taking food coma naps downstairs on the futon, i'm able to conk out on my left side. i find that very odd. why isn't that able to happen at night in bed? *ponder*

it's really interesting how different people have different tastes in the opposite sex. (or, for gay people, the same sex.) or, rather, how our aesthetic/romantic tastes differ. i mean, sometimes, we can all agree that a certain person is attractive. but then, we meet people, and some people find that person pretty, and some don't. that's very intriguing to me. it's a good thing, i believe, because otherwise, we'd all be chasing the same people, and some people would never find a mate. how does the equation of facial components add up to attraction? and how the hell did i get to be so picky? i've told cindyT a few times already that i think i was spoiled by my previous gf's.

are there such things as conservative gay people?

i saw the danica patrick superbowl ad that was rejected on godaddy.com. ha! i totally forgot about the fact that "beaver" is a slang term for a girl's vadge. it is no surprise that the ad got negged. i think danica is pretty cute, although i read somewhere that she's like super-short. the thing is, though, that she needs to win some races, otherwise she'll be the anna kournikova of the racing world. (except that i actually think she's cute, as opposed to anna, who i think is damn ugly.)

ok. time to go. wondering what to do for dinner.

gotta hand it to eli

friday night, i drove to nelson's house, and three of us carpooled to greg's birthday shindig at bj's brewery. we then proceeded to feed greg drinks until he puked his guts out. eddie got him some nasty stuff (three wise men, a shot of 151). i got greg a long island iced tea and some tequila. the girls got him some tastier fare, like a scooby snack, an irish car bomb, a chocolate cake, and a buttery nipple (which i took because greg was out of commission by that time).

i had my own share of drinks: three whiskey's, two shots of tequila, a chocolate cake, and that buttery nipple. i only had two slices of pizza to eat, and when i had that cigarette on the drive from nelson's house back home, i got really dizzy. man. i missed my turn TWICE, and i was definitely not in shape to drive. good thing i only had to drive 2-3 miles home. when i got home, i promptly puked and went to bed. i don't even remember taking a shower.

i feel bad for greg. i definitely went overboard in getting him drinks (having eddie as as partner in crime didnt' help, either). but from what i heard, greg didn't even have a hangover, so i'm glad he did all right. i had to get up at night to drink some water.

the next day, i got up, grabbed some jack in the box, and watched the stanford/wazzu game. it was really ugly; we had 16 turnovers compared to wsu's 4. but in the end, we won by 2 in overtime. *phew* crazy. after the game, i went to check on my fixed luggage, but the place was closed. rats. to console myself, i grabbed some yogurt fantasy. they had cap'n crunch! alas, i didn't get the topping this time, but of course, i got the mochi along with a medium tart yogurt. *yum* i really dig this place. after that, i just putzed around the house until dinner.

i picked up nelson and mikeC, and we went to red robin. i LOVE their steak fries! i ate way too many of them, and coupled with the ranch dressing (steak fries go well with ranch) i ordered, i felt sick afterwards. after we finished dinner, we went back to mikeC's place and played super mario galaxy, the new mario game for the Wii. it's a fun game, but we got stuck on this one level for like 15 lives. after mike finished that level, nelson and i called it a night and left.

sunday, 6 of us grabbed dim sum at dynasty at 11:30. ah, dim sum. it was a grand outing. greg was there, so i asked him if he was ok on saturday morning. before we were seated, i finally made my super bowl plans; jeremy decided to come over to my place to watch the game in glorious HD.

after eating, i decided not to go to beard papa's and went home to prepare for the super bowl. (i did watch the end of the mavs/pistons game, and my poor mavericks got destroyed in the last quarter.) i invited william, who arrived first, and then jeremy came. later on, jeremy had to leave because kate was sick, and then my coworker D came during the third quarter.

the game was very tense. william predicted a 42-21 blowout by the pats, but the game was far from that. will and i both *really* wanted the pats to win, so during the last five minutes, we were so nervous that we were standing up. when new england went up 14-10, we shouted and gave each other a double-high-five, but deep down, with just under 3 minutes left, i had this sinking feeling that eli was doing to drive the giants to the winning score. i knew that he could do it. and he did.

i had never seen will so nervous and (later on) dejected before. anyways, after the game, i took D to ryowa and introduced him to their ramen. the soup wasn't as tasty as it normally was. then, we tried to hit yogurt fantasy again, but they were closed for the super bowl (i presumed). bummer. then, he left, and i just watched espn until bedtime.

man. what a letdown. i have to say, the giants defense really did a number on tom brady. they really were the MVP of the game. i'm happy strahan got a ring, but i'm bummed for junior seau. i really wanted to see him win one. :(

overall, from a football perspective, it was a really good game. it just went the wrong way for me.
