oops. i was drinking a huge mouthful of dr pepper, and i choked on it. so i wound up spewing that mouthful all over my desk, and also onto my jeans. man, what a mess. so now, my keyboard is all sticky, and my left leg is all wet, and it smells like cherry cough syrup. wet jeans are so uncomfortable! ugh. i can't wait to go home and switch into a new pair of pants.
so D recommended mongolian BBQ today. ah, what a wonderful meal. the place was surprisingly dead today, and there was no line to get the food cooked. i had massive food coma afterwards, and i conked out for a good 40+ minutes in my cube afterwards.
so i finally have thanksgiving plans! i'm spending lunch and the early afternoon at joy and rosh's place. they're doing turkey deep-frying all afternoon, and i'm looking forward to that, as i've never had deep-fried turkey before. is the blackened skin edible? and for dinner, grace is hosting a small get-together with me, her, john and mikeC. yeah, we're the homeless folks, as everyone else has family around. it'll be us and the animals. plus, i've got the cowboys/jets game to watch as well. go dallas!
dishi's favorite candy is smarties. i'm munching on some right now, and i don't get it. to me, they taste like flavored aspirin tablets. you know, like sweetened chalk. i quizzed him today over IM and asked how many smarties come in a roll. he responded by saying that smarties come in all sorts of varieties, but the regular roll comes in packs of 15. i was impressed. i expecting nothing less of him when it comes to trivia about his favorite candy. :)
so last night, a friend of mine told me that two of her friends got divorced because the wife turned out to be a lesbian. i was shocked. i mean, how do you not know this before you get married? i mean, don't you feel beforehand that it's not quite "right" when you're with a man? hm. i just don't know. anyways, it's a sad situation, and i hope the two of them are eventually ok. i'm friends withh a couple of gay people, but i don't know their stories of how they came out, except that they did it quite late in their lives, e.g. during or after college. i'd be very interested in how they came to realize that they were gay, and how much a role denial played in their lives. it must be tough to come out in this massively homophobic world of ours.
man, i have the hiccups.
i realized the other day that i'm a pretty negative person. it was because i looked at my previous three facebook status messages, and they all started out "dardy is bummed..." i mean, that's a lot of bummitude! so i resolved to never use that word again in my statuses. so today, i changed it to something about be excited that this week is only a 3-day workweek. yup. i am highly looking forward to thanksgiving break. :) but i just need to motivate myself to at least do a little bit of work these three days.
i can't believe that KOIT (fm 96.5) has already switched to christmas music. it's not even thanksgiving yet! it sucks because that's one of the radio stations that i depend on for good music, and now it's taken itself out of the rotation. i didn't even know that there was so much christmas music available to play 24/7.
ok, my jeans are finally dry. MUCH better.
so i have a question to those girl out there who shave/wax their pubes. would you ever consider getting permanent hair removal? i mean, sure, it may be expensive, but wouldn't it be worth it to not have to go through the process every few days/weeks? once, i bought my gf exactly that: an igia permanent hair removal kit. i'm not sure how it worked, but i think it used minor electric shocks or something to remove the hair. i think it was kind of tedious, since you have to put the tweezer thingies on each follicle one by one, so i'm not sure she ever used it. but still, you only have to do that once, and then, never again!
i tweeze my cheek hair. it gives me great satisfaction. i mean, it actually feels good to grab that hair and pull it out. i used to tweeze my chin hair, too, and while i don't have the density there like hairier men, there's still quite a lot of stuff there. so i would sometimes spend like a good half an hour in front of the mirror doing it. but i've stopped doing it now, so my chin's all sensitive now, and it hurts when i have to tweeze there when my electric shaver can't get to one or two follicles. but man, those were the days. i even got (as a gift from my gf) a diamond-coated tweezer from the sharper image. it had amazing grip. (i lost it, though.)
ok, time to do some facebook-ing.
friday night, i met up with paul and mikeC for some mexican food (since leeya wasn't around) at los charros. i recommended the wet burrito to paul, but he seemed very skeptical, so he didn't get it. i got my usual super carnitas wet burrito, but i couldn't finish it. it was still damn yummy, though. i got a corona with my meal, and they served it with a frosted glass with lime juice at the bottom and salt on the rim. is salt normal? i had never seen it served that way, so i just poured the lime juice into the bottle (which caused it to fizz and overflow) and drank it that way.
saturday, i took adam to st. john's (his first time there), we both got the beg for mercy cheeseburger (half off burgers on saturday). it wasn't spicy this time, which was a bummer. then, we went to fry's, where adam was looking for a good deal on hard drives but didn't find any. afterwards, i went back and watched the ending to the ohio state/michigan football game. it was boring, so i fell asleep and then just putzed around.
for dinner, i met up with grace and john at pasta pomodoro at santana row. i was really lucky with parking, which was not the case for poor mikeC, who spent 40 minutes looking for parking and then gave up and went home. i can understand his plight. once, i went there, and it took me half an hour to find parking, and i wound up finding a spot at some residential district and had to walk like 10 minutes to get to maggiano's. that place is just crazy on the weekends, and i'll make a note to never go there on a weekend night.
it took us about two hours to have dinner (long wait, understaffed restaurant), but i was really happy they brought back the gemelli dish. grace and john brought two foster puppies, and they got a lot of attention. puppies are cute! afterwards, we went back to grace's house in campbell (where mikeC joined us), and we tried to get gelato, but we missed closing time by 5 minutes. damn. we hung out for a bit at the house (where grace was hosting 7 dogs and 4 kittens), and then i just went home.
sunday, i got up at 9, and drove up to SFO to meet with my dad, who was on a layover from dallas to taiwan. (i spotted darby-guy from my company, who was on a trip to japan. ah, yet another opportunity to correct him gone down teh drain). it was really nice to see my dad. we chatted for a while as he slurped down a bowl of ramen from ebisu, and then we said goodbye. he shook my hand when we left. ah, business-like. we never hug. i stood there as he disappeared into the security line, and i felt sad that we don't get to see each other that often. but at least i'll see him again next month when we congretate in LA for my cousin's wedding.
then, we had a long-overdue dim sum outing with 7 people at dynasty. the service was really bad since we were stuck in the back, and i could tell john was getting pissed. afterwards, some of us went to grace's house (again) to meet the animals and grab gelato (since we missed it last night). we watched the hapless 49ers lose, and i even got to watch the last 2 minutes of the cowboys/redskins game. (cowboys eeked out a tight game. yay! 9-1!) then, i went home, watched a the patriots go up 14-7, and then it was off to SFO again.
this time, i went to the airport to pick up alan and ting. i always park and wait for the people instead of picking them up curbside. i feel it's a more personal touch, and besides, i don't like the idea of circling the airport, not knowing when they'll come out. we went to gombei (yay!) to dinner, and then i dropped them off. after that, it was like 9pm or so, and i just went home, watched sportscenter, and went to bed.
lots of driving this weekend. mostly highway, too.
