airport rides

so in the next week and a half, i'm going to be making four trips to the airport to drop off and pick up people. it's cool with me. i think airport rides are ok to give because it brings good karma. you never know when you might be the one who needs a ride to/from there, and it sure beats paying a bunch of $$$ for a cab or shuttle ride. this morning, i gave alan and ting a ride to SFO for valmik's wedding in NYC (long island, to be slightly more exact); i'll pick them up sunday night.

i hate flying east. the whole day is practically shot from travelling. like, i picked them up at 10:30am today, and they arrive past 9pm in new york. ick. i know you gain a lot back when you fly back west, but still, you're all tired from travelling, so it doesn't count for much. i guess you could fly a red-eye, but still, that presents problems itself, i.e. being exhausted when you arrive bright and early in the morning.

so, i'm going to send k1 a birthday present this year. (i didn't have her address before.) it's an EP by sarah cracknell, the lead singer of saint etienne, one of my favorite bands (she was the one who introduced them to me our freshman year). it's got two songs that i think capture our feelings toward each other. the first one represents me (the lyrics go, "i'm all right if you're all right"), and the second one represents her ("i'm living in the penthouse, basement boy stay away"). that second one is pretty fucking cool, isn't it? and they're both great-sounding songs, too, some of my all-time favorites. i'm going to mail the CD off next week; it'll take about one or two weeks to get to her.

since i've gotten my car back, i've smoked twice in it while driving. i'm really trying not to. it stinks up the car (despite the fact that i have leather seats), and it releases ash all over the place. when i had the rental car for the past three weeks, i didn't smoke in it at all, so i had to get used to timing my cigarette breaks outside. but i really enjoy smoking while i'm behind the wheel, so it's hard not to do it when i know i can.

i had dinner with yuji at our usual place (maruichi) last night. i was happy to see him again. he just got married and returned from his honeymoon last week. we were talking about sharing beds with women, and i reminisced about how amazing it was that in college, we shared beds in a twin-sized mattress. how did we do that?! and it was actually comfortable, too! although, this one time, i fell out of my bed, and it was lofted as well, so i took like a 5-foot fall onto the ground. luckily, i didn't break any bones; i just woke up and was like, "huh? why am i on the floor?" and then climbed back up and fell asleep again. but yeah, two people in a twin was crazy, especially with k1, because she was 5'10" and i'm 6'0". luckily, we were both thin people.

nicotine (or whatever it is in cigarettes that makes you poo) is amazing. in the mornings, when i go out for my first smoke, within like three drags, i feel my bowels churning and prepping for that morning dump. i mean, that's a fast reaction! lately, it's been like clockwork. in fact, the mechanism works so quickly that i usually have to clench really hard to not shit in my pants while i finish the rest of my cigarette. crazy, how chemicals and drugs do their business on your body.

so _the real world_ is getting juicy again. this time, the new roommate, ashli, and dunbar (interesting name) are flirting around each other. the thing is, though, is that dunbar has a girlfriend at home. what's going to happen? ah, the temptations of a cute girl (not that i think ashli is cute or anything). long distance is hard enough without some young nubile creature showing interest. the teaser for the next episode shows them getting into bed together! like i said, juicy!

i had a chance to correct the darby-guy today. we were next to each other at the free-friday-lunch line at the cafeteria, and as expected, he said, "hi darby." i was thinking of smiling and showing my badge and saying in a friendly manner, "hey dude, read my badge" or something like that, but i didn't have any free hands (one was carrying my food and the other my dessert), so i just passed up the opportunity. btw, the dessert was pecan pie, which i normally LOVE, but i found it to be too sweet. maybe it's supposed to be this sweet, and i've just lost my taste for it? *shrug*

ok, that's it for today. i'm itching to get out of here. have a STUPENDOUS weekend, folks!
