mongolian bliss

man, i had an amazing lunch. i had been craving mongolian bbq for weeks, and we finally went today. i made the perfect bowl: a heaping mound of freshly-dumped noodles, pork, jalapenos, broccoli, and white onions. i added three ladles of soy sauce, two of garlic, and two of chili paste. and then i had four egg rolls. delicioso! the only problem was that i was so stuffed that when i got back, i had such horrible food coma that i passed out in my cube for about an hour. :) oh, and it's expensive now ($12 total, without tipping the food makers). i probably won't go back for a month; i've had my fill.

actually, i've been getting food coma a lot lately. i think it's because i'm getting up early, so by the time lunch ends, i've been awake for a longer period of time, thus being susceptible to tiredness. before my early-rising spell, i had been pretty good about not taking naps and stuff, but throughout the past week (including weekends), i have been falling asleep after lunch.

today is a friend's 50-year-old birthday. it's hard to imagine that i have a friend that old, but she's one of my taiko friends. she joined as a faculty member at stanford, so that's why she's significantly older than me. i consider her a peer, and not someone of an older generation. some of my other taiko peeps are planning on infiltrating her house and surprising her, and i might join along, depending on whether i have dinner plans.

sometimes i wonder if i should be a mentor to some of my younger coworkers. i mean, they're the ones that i hang out with here at the office, and they're the ones that i go to lunch with. i rarely think about the fact that i'm like 5-8 years old than them, because it doesn't feel like it. but the thing is, if i really was their mentor, i would tell them to leave my company and get a job at a better company. there's not much "cool" work here. it's mostly taking care of other people's stuff; if i were then, i'd join a startup and work on writing new code and potentially strike it big and all that. the jobs here are sort of dead ends, as far as career and skill advancement go.

this morning, for whatever reason, TBS wasn't airing _dawson's creek_ at 9. so i was flipping through the channels, and i landed on VH1 showing a video of fergie's _big girls don't cry_. that's a pretty song! regarding fergie, i don't think she has an attractive face, but i recall seeing her washboard abs during a black eyed peas video once. damn, that was hot. girls with abs are a turn-on. i don't need six-packs, though; just some definition, especially along the sides.

sometimes, when i really think about, cubicle life really seems absurd to me. it's like an _office space_ moment. i mean, what the hell, we sit in a little open box in front of a computer, and we just stare at a screen and type. what the fuck? are we chickens, laying "code" eggs? hrmph. speaking of work, i guess i'm the default choice to implementing this new important feature in the next rev of our chip. and we need to finish it soon. (as usual, silicon valley hardware deadlines are absurdly aggressive. *sigh*)

i forgot how excited i was about my cowboys. before i went to strike, i watched it (in HD!) at home. i actually jumped up and cheered when the 'boys scored. hehe. and at strike, i kept missing the plays when the cowboys scored because i was talking to tim and the girls. i would glance over at the screen and find out that they had just scored a touchdown. then, i would watch the replay, but that, of course, is never as exciting as watching it live. oh well.

what percentage of guys do you think have a porn stash? after i got my new tv and reconnected my dvd player, i'm (very) slowly rediscovering mine. i've noticed, though, that some of my dvd's have rotted or something. they get stuck at a certain point, and the dvd player just chokes and stops. is dvd rot something that happens frequently? i've heard of laserdisc rot before, but i didn't think that kind of stuff happened to dvd's.

one of my friends dated three "jen"'s in a row. that's just nuts. i also know of another friend who dated three "ed"'s in a row as well. at least you don't have to worry about screaming the wrong name during sex. i worry about that sometimes. i've had these moments when i meet a girl, and i actually have to pause for a few seconds while i try to remember their name. if that ever happened to a future girlfriend, i'd be in the doghouse for sure. and if i actually said the wrong name? ouchie! i'd be fucked, and not the sexual kind.

ok, c'est tout!

late nights

friday night, it was nelson's birthday celebration. we met up at mayflower in milpitas for dinner and occupied two tables. we ordered an assortment or dishes, and one of them was peking duck. i didn't to eat as much duck skin as i wanted, but at the end, christi snagged me a final piece from the other table. yum!

afterwards, we went back to nelson's place and proceeded to get him pretty drunk. at first, it was pretty slow going; at 11:30, he had only had two shots. so i pushed the tempo up a bit, forcing more tequila and vodka (chilled grey goose) into nelson's system. by the end of the night, nelson had like 9-10 shots, and he was pretty fucked up, i think. i had like 6, and i was just a little bit buzzed.

there were a few "creative" drinks, and the one that took the cake was a mixture of kahlua, 100 proof peppermint schnapps, half a marshmallow, and some whipped cream. yeah. disgusting. nelson said it was completely nasty, hehe.

i went home around 2am, puked, and then called my mom using skype and chatted for a while. i wound up falling asleep around 3am. i smoked 18 cigarettes that day. yeah, almost a full pack.

saturday, it was all about mikeT's bachelor party. we met at la bamba for lunch (carnitas quesadilla, extra cheese), and then we went to LQ for some lasertag. i'm horrible at that game. there were 14 of us, and we were mixed in with all these little kids. i'm a terrible aim, and i lost all these face off's. by the second (of three) games, i lost all desire to play, and i actually got a NEGATIVE score! haha.

afterwards, i went home and took a nap. then, i went over to paul's house at 7pm, helped pick up five pizza's, ate, and then played poker (no-limit texas hold'em) with 9 other guys. i was pleased to win a few hands (my best hand was a king-high straight), but eventually lost when i went all-in with a two pair to a three-of-a-kind.

for a while, we turned on some porn, and i was watching some artsy black and white lesbian porn. it wasn't very interesting, but it felt a bit weird having porn on with a bunch of people around. porn is usually a private thing, you know? but anyways, after people dropped out of poker, we started playing the Wii. i finally went home around 1:30 and fell asleep around 2am.

sunday, we had dim sum at dynasty. i ate so much that i had major food coma and went home and crashed again. i watched some football when i woke up. then, alan came over (he's back from his honeymoon with ting from costa rica) to pick up some wedding gifts that were shipped to my house. i showed him some HD football, and he was impressed. then, i watched the cowboys/giants game for a bit.

then, i headed off to strike (this swanky bowling alley/bar) in vallco to meet up with tim and company. i got there early to catch up on the cowboys game and drank some whiskey while i waited for them to arrive. when everyone got there, we ordered dinner, and ate and chatted while i kept on looking over at the big screen to check out the football action. dallas won, 45-35. so much for wade phillip's vaunted defense.

i bowled a 150 and a 119. it was fun, talking to some of the new people that tim brought. i had a good time, and we wound up staying until like 10:45ish.

so yeah, i stayed up later than usual all three nights. i guess that's a good sign that i'm being socially active. hooray for that! haha. i took xanax to help me fall asleep all three nights, though, and that's one thing that i don't like. i think the next time i sleep late, i'm going to skip the medication and see if i can fall asleep with seroquel alone. i don't like taking too many meds. but at any rate, it was a really good weekend. :)
